Will Semi-Permanent Hair Dyes Damage My Hair?

Will Semi-Permanent Hair Dyes Damage My Hair?

I’m sure that everyone with coloured hair has heard this at least once in their life: “You dye your hair so much, it's going to be damaged and one day all your hair is going to fall out”. I personally have heard that so many times and it’s time for me to address some misconceptions about hair colour.

How do Semi-Permanent dyes work?

Semi-permanent hair dyes are made for providing you with short term hair colour. This is perfect for the adventurous souls who are constantly looking to switch up their hair colour. It is typically available in a wide range of vibrant colours and they have a conditioner like consistency. Unlike permanent hair dyes, semi-permanent hair dyes coat the surface of the hair shaft, rather than penetrating the hair shaft and changing the colour of the hair. These dyes also do not contain bleach, so they cannot lighten your natural colour, making it non-damaging.

There is a difference between semi-permanent and permanent dye

Permanent dyes on the other hand contain harsh chemicals and lightening agents that change the natural colour of your hair. This allows the colour of the dye to be more long lasting, hence its name “permanent hair colour”. However, these harsh chemicals cause damage to your hair.

Semi-permanent dye DOES NOT damage your hair

Semi-permanent dyes (especially the ones from Qwerky Colour) are specially formulated to have conditioner-like textures which hydrate the hair and soften it after application. So if you really think about it, the people who colour their hair using semi-permanent colour actually “treat” their hair more than the people who constantly dye their hair using box dyes.
