Strand Test
Shampoo and fully dry the hair. Do NOT use conditioner. Select approximately 1 inch strands of hair in a hidden area of your hair and apply the dye. Leave it on for 30 minutes and wash it off with cool water. If the colour is to your liking, proceed to the next section to learn how to dye your whole head.
Patch Test
Select a small test area of skin behind the ear or in the inner fold of the elbow.
Wash the test area of skin with mild soap and water and dry with a clean towel.
Apply a thin coat of your specific Qwerky Colour hair dye to the test area and let it dry. Leave the test area uncovered and undisturbed for 24 hours. Do not use the product on the person tested if there are any signs of irritation.
Actual Dyeing Process
Step 1: Shampoo your hair and let it dry fully without conditioner
Starting with clean and dry hair allows the dye to adhere better to the hair.
Step 2: Prepare items needed for the perfect Qwerky hair makeover
Purchase our Dye Necessities Set and Pastel Alligator Clips to make life easier. Having a hair dye brush is optional so don't sweat it if you don't have one.
Step 3: Do the prep work
Prepare for your hair dyeing session by putting on a dark coloured shirt that you don’t mind staining or using our clothing covers. Apply vaseline along your hairline, on your ears and neck to prevent it from staining. Cover your floor and table top with newspaper or plastic bags to prevent the dye from staining it.
#QwerkyTIP: Use nail polish remover to remove dye stains from surfaces.
Step 4: Section your hair with alligator clips or rubber bands
Sectioning makes it easier for you to get an even dye job. Try to make sure that you section your hair into at least 4 quadrants (2 top, 2 bottom). Keep the sections tidy using our Pastel Alligator Clips.
Step 5: Start applying the hair dye
Using your hands (wear your gloves) or hair dye brush, start applying the hair dye generously on to the bleached sections of your hair. Be sure to work in small sections (~1 inch) so that you don’t miss out any strands!
#QwerkyTIP: Pull apart the hairs in the section to check whether every strand in the section is fully saturated in dye. The hairs in the middle of each section tend to be less saturated.
You want to try to balance out the processing time for each dye section to get a more even colour. Try working in the following order so that the left and right side of your hair will have relatively even looking colour: bottom left > bottom right > top left > top right
Step 6: Wait for 30-60 mins before washing off
Do check on your hair periodically to ensure that you didn’t miss out any sections of hair, use the same method mentioned in Step 4. You can also get a friend to check the back of your head.
Step 7: Wash off with lukewarm water, shampoo and conditioner
Be sure to wash out the dye thoroughly with shampoo. Do wear a pair of gloves if you have sensitive skin or if you don't want the dyes to stain your hands. Also, it's normal for the water to bleed out like the colour of your hair, so don't panic! Just remember to wash off your bathroom area to prevent staining. If you want your dye job to last longer you can skip the shampoo.
#QwerkyTIP: Use a dark coloured towel and dark coloured shirt when you just hop out of the shower to prevent staining on your garments. You can dry your hair to prevent staining too.
Step 8: You’re done!
And that’s it, you now have Qwerky Colour-ed hair. Be sure to take some cute photos and tag us on our socials!
Step 9: Maintaining your new hair colour
One of the best things about Qwerky Colour dyes is that you don't need to use it with special shampoo or conditioner! Our dyes are made to be long-lasting even with regular shampoo. This means you can easily change up your hair colour without buying a ton of different coloured shampoos for each dye job you do. One thing tho, unless you want to strip out the colour from your hair, stay away from clarifying shampoos, but that's it! Just that one rule 😉

How do I maintain my colour?
You can maintain your colour by pairing our dyes with our Suck It Up Colour Locking Hair Mask and What The Frizz Hair Serum Oil as they have colour retention properties!
Avoid using anti-dandruff/clarifying shampoo and hot water when showering. Refrain from swimming in pools/the sea as your colour would fade faster.
Can I keep leftovers for future use?
Yes! Store it in a cool and dry location away from sunlight and close the lid tight.
